Government unveils ambitious plan to transform the country into a digital hub
The Government of Sierra Leone has officially launched a comprehensive Digital Economy Initiative aimed at positioning the country as a leading digital hub in West Africa. The initiative, announced by the Minister of Technology and Innovation, includes investments in broadband infrastructure, digital literacy programs, and support for tech startups.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Freetown, the minister emphasized that the digital transformation will create thousands of jobs for young people and attract foreign investment into the technology sector. The initiative will focus on expanding internet access to rural areas, establishing technology innovation centers, and providing training programs for digital skills.
Key components of the initiative include the development of a national broadband network, establishment of technology parks in major cities, and partnerships with international tech companies. The government has allocated substantial funding for the project and expects to see significant progress within the next two years.
